Mobile app design
Clean, intuitive app interfaces designed around real tasks — usable one-handed, on a bad connection, on an older phone.

Good apps feel obvious. We design mobile interfaces that are quick to navigate, comfortable to use and genuinely pleasant — whether the app is for your customers or for the people doing the work for you.
- First question
- Do you need an app?
- Typical build
- 8–12 weeks
- Store review

Where AI fits in an app
Mostly in the background: summarising reviews, sorting support messages into the right bucket, or drafting a first reply for someone to check. It is not a reason to build an app. If the only justification is that you could put AI in it, it's very probably not worth building.
An app, or a very good website?
This is the first question, and the answer is often no. If people need something once a month, a fast mobile website does the same job for none of the cost. Apps earn their place when there's genuine repeat use, when the browser genuinely can't do it, or when offline access is essential. We'll tell you when a website is enough, even though that means a smaller project.
Designed for one-handed, distracted use
People use apps on buses, in shops, holding a toddler. That changes everything: large targets near the top of the screen, no tiny text, nothing requiring two hands, and a clear way out of anything you've wandered into. Designing on a desktop and shrinking it is exactly how you end up with an app nobody opens twice.
Getting it in front of people
The app itself is the easy part; store review isn't. We build to the current guidelines from the start rather than getting rejected and reworking. We'll also make sure it's findable on Google, because a large share of app discovery happens through search rather than the store.
Performance is the whole game
An app that takes five seconds to open feels broken. We keep it light, cache what it can, and make it work on an older phone on a poor connection — because that's what a good share of your customers actually have.
Launch is the start, not the finish
The first version matters less than the six months after it launches, when you find out what people genuinely struggle with. We plan for updates from the beginning and tell you what the ongoing work involves before you commit, not afterwards.
What’s included
- Experience designed around real tasks
- Clean, modern interfaces
- Prototypes you can test before we build
- iOS and Android conventions respected
- A proper handover for whoever develops it
Why it matters
- An app people actually enjoy using
- Fewer taps to get a job done
- A clear plan before a line of code exists
Often useful alongside this
- Website design if what you need is a fast mobile website, which is often the cheaper and better answer.
- An app for your staff if the app is for people doing the job rather than customers.
- An app for your customers if there's a genuine reason for them to keep opening it.
Common questions
- How much does a mobile app cost?
- It depends what it does, and we won't quote a number that isn't tied to a real specification. Tell us what you're trying to achieve and we'll give a written estimate — including an honest note on whether a website would do the job first.
- Android or iPhone first?
- Usually whichever platform your customers actually use, which is worth checking rather than assuming. We'd rather you spent the budget on the right device than half of it on the wrong one.
- How long does it take?
- A focused app is typically eight to twelve weeks including testing and store submission. Anything more complex takes longer, and we'll be specific about the milestones.
- Will it pass the app store review?
- We build to the current guidelines from the start, which is the best way to avoid rejection. We submit on your behalf and deal with anything that comes back.
- Do I have to keep paying to maintain it?
- Apps need updating as the operating systems underneath them change, so some ongoing work is unavoidable. We'll set that out up front rather than surprising you later.
